The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) took part in the EBU Media Summit 2026, organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), held from April 21 to 24, 2026, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event brought together more than 150 participants from 37 countries.
ASBU was represented at this event by Ms. Haidi Elgallad, Director of the Radio Department. This participation reflects ASBU’s ongoing commitment to following key global transformations in the media sector and strengthening its presence in regional and international forums.
As part of the summit’s activities, a field visit was organized to Sofia Tech Park, including the Discoverer Sofia Petascale Supercomputer Center, one of Europe’s leading advanced computing facilities. The visit offered insights into the significant potential of high-performance computing in supporting innovation, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence, and its growing role in enhancing media content production and distribution.

The summit focused on two main themes:
- Crisis preparedness as a strategic priority for public service media
- The evolution of live broadcasting in the context of digital transformation
The ASBU representative also took part in the Radio Assembly 2026 meetings, which addressed several key issues, including:
- Trust and relevance in the era of misinformation and artificial intelligence
- The “Radio Ready” initiative and the future of in-car radio
- European regulations and the importance of collective action
- The future of radio distribution
- The role of music in creating value and strengthening impact
