240 Students from 30 Countries Take Part in the 1st Round of the 25th Asian Physics Olympiad 2025

A total of 240 male and female students representing 30 countries took the first round of tests in the 25th edition of the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) 2025, held at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The exam was translated into the languages of the participating countries under the supervision of 110 international specialists.

The practical exam, which lasted five hours, forms a core component of this prestigious competition — one of the most renowned international physics contests for high school students. It aims to foster critical and creative thinking among outstanding students in the field. The Olympiad consists of two main tests: one practical and the other theoretical. Each test lasts five hours and is prepared and evaluated based on rigorous scientific standards set by the International Board of the Olympiad. Students are required to demonstrate their best abilities in a highly competitive environment.

The selection mechanism for students participating in the Olympiad is based on their cumulative performance in theoretical and practical training camps. They progress through several training levels, and in the fourth level, they undergo intensive programs that include qualifying tests. Based on these, the national team is selected.

This major scientific event, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from May 4 to 12, is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, under the slogan: “Together, We Generate the Energy of the Future.”
