Arab States Broadcasting Union Condemns Israeli Strike on Journalists’ Tent in Khan Younis

Widely condemned as a deliberate and unlawful assault on the press, an early morning Israeli drone strike on Monday targeted a tent sheltering journalists near the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. Journalist Helmi Al-Faqaawi was killed in the attack, and at least ten others were injured, several of them critically.

The tent was part of a clearly marked press zone that housed over 200 journalists and media workers. Large “Press” signs were visible on the tents—an internationally recognized protection under the laws of armed conflict. The precision of the strike and the location raise serious and credible allegations that the attack was intentional.
The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) strongly condemns what it called a "heinous crime" and “part of a systematic campaign by the Israeli military to silence independent reporting and obscure the scale of atrocities committed in Gaza.”
What occurred was not collateral damage but a deliberate strike against journalists, whose only weapon is the truth. Since the beginning of the war, at least 210 journalists have been killed, setting a grim precedent and marking this conflict as the deadliest for the press in modern history.
ASBU called on international institutions, human rights bodies, and media organizations to issue a unified and unequivocal condemnation of Israel’s escalating assaults on the press.
ASBU commended the courage of journalists working under fire in Gaza and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing coverage of the situation. It has deployed special correspondents within the Strip and is working in coordination with the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation to document and disseminate reports of war crimes and human rights violations. These reports are being shared with Arab broadcasters and global networks across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
