The Arab States Broadcasting Union will hold the third Arab Media Congress in Tunis on January 17-18, 2024 and will focus on the following topic: “Media in the Artificial Intelligence Era: Opportunities and Challenges”.
After the success of the two previous editions, ASBU is moving forward in establishing this Arab media event as an annual tradition, during which it tackles the most important issues in the field of media and communication and hosts the most prominent Arab and international elite. It is also worth noting that this event will be attended by a number of well-known personalities and experts in the media field and several national and regional approaches will be reviewed and discussed.
In fact, in addition to Arab experts participating from Arab countries including Algeria - Egypt – United Arab Emirates - Saudi Arabia - Morocco - Tunisia - Iraq, the congress will also be enriched by the participation of foreign ones coming from the United States of America, China, France, Italy, Malaysia and Switzerland.
The congress’s main topic will be divided into five basic themes as following:
1. Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Media Content Creation
2. Artificial Intelligence and Media Professions
3. Technical and Technological aspects of using Artificial Intelligence
4. Artificial Intelligence: Ethics and Legislation
5. Review of successful experiences in using Artificial Intelligence in the Media
The topic of media in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) era still constitutes a source of debate and controversy at the heart of the Arab media scene, setting the balance between enthusiasm and caution.
In today's data-driven world, AI can be dealt with enthusiastically thanks to the enormous opportunities it provides in improving the quality and the transmission of media content and big data analysis. This will greatly contribute to “directing” content according to the audience needs, representing, hence, a huge opportunity to enhance listeners, viewers and readers experiences and explore new horizons for creativity.
On the other hand, AI use in media remains “risky”. In fact, in a world drowning with data, it has to adapt to rapid developments, interact with technical innovations and ensure “human resources” continuity. Not to forget the stakes related to privacy and cybersecurity, as media must take effective measures to ensure information protection.
By the end of the congress, a declaration will be issued, including the recommendations and proposals emerging from the different sessions and discussions. This declaration is meant to enlighten Arab media institutions, professionals and researchers in dealing properly with Artificial Intelligence, in improving production and content broadcasting.
